Aln Valley Railway

Originally built in 1896 for the North Eastern Railway at York, this remarkable coach was designed for railway directors – complete with its own kitchen and toilet. After years in departmental service and a final overhaul in 1965, it passed through private ownership before arriving with us in 2012 in very poor condition.
What followed was an incredible six-year restoration, that was completed in 2022.
From near-derelict… to one of the most special vehicles on the railway.

Special fares apply – £17.50 adult, £11.00 child (3-15yrs). Please note: dogs are not permitted in this carriage.
On normal operating days, you can upgrade your journey and ride in the Directors’ Saloon for just a £5 supplement (return) – and enjoy a completely different way to travel.
