From the A1 (north or south) turn off at the A1068 junction (next to McDonalds and a BP garage), then:
From the south, turn right at the roundabout, go under the A1 then turn right heading towards Shilbottle. Take the next left into Lionheart Enterprise Park (next to MKM) and continue to the end (Mole Country Store), following the brown tourist signs to Lionheart Station.
From the north, turn left at the second junction (do not take the first junction just as you turn off the A1 – this is a private road and our visitors are not allowed to use it). Take the next left into Lionheart Enterprise Park (next to MKM) and continue to the end (Mole Country Store), following the brown tourist signs to Lionheart Station.
Walkers and cyclists also use the narrow access road. Please drive with care.
Car parking is free (however special events may incur a voluntary admission charge).
By Train
The nearest main line railway station is Alnmouth for Alnwick, which is regularly served by trains from Edinburgh, Newcastle and beyond.
The Aln Valley Railway is still about a mile away from its goal of reaching Alnmouth, so to get there you need to catch a bus or a taxi.
It is not possible to walk along the old trackbed to Greenrigg Halt from Alnmouth Station.
By Bus
These buses stop at the entrance to the Lionheart Enterprise Park – from there it’s only a short walk to the Lionheart site – please remember to advise the driver where you’re getting off:
- Arriva X15 – Newcastle – Morpeth – Alnwick – A1 – Berwick
- Service 15 – Thropton – Rothbury – Alnwick – Willowburn Retail Park – Lionheart Enterprise Park
- Travelsure T01 – Alnwick – Lionheart Enterprise Park – Shilbottle – Amble
Alternatively, use Traveline North East and Cumbria to plan your journey.
By Cycle
The National Cycle Route No1 passes near to Alnmouth Station. One of our aims is to provide access from there into Alnwick. Until then, you can travel up Bilton Bank from Alnmouth Station and turn right at Bilton Farm to Greenrigg Bridge. There you can either jump onto our trains to Lionheart or you can use the new cyclepath that runs alongside the line.
Alnwick town centre can be accessed using a combination of designated paths, lanes and the road.
Cycling along the A1068 road from Lesbury to Alnwick is not recommended as it is hilly, twisty, narrow in places and has fast moving traffic.
